Slow & Easy - 20080811 - 1 Run - 6.0 Miles 

Evening Run

Monday's are usually my day off but I wanted to make my training a little more intense for the next 3 weeks and wanted to know the base a little more. This is why I ran a perimeter run around the base. It was a good run at sunset, there were actually more Japanese runners on base than American.

I easy ran 6 miles in 55 minutes. The last half mile I picked up the pace to stretch my legs out. It felt good.

Slow & Easy - 20080810 - 1 Run - 10.5 Miles  

Afternoon Run

It was still a little hot in Iwakuni during the midday but I wanted to get out and look around. So I set out to run to the Kintai castle. I followed the river from off of base and it was easy to spot the castle once I was about half way there.

The river is pretty clean. People were swimming in it and so I decided to take a dip when I got way too hot (I didn't bring enough change for such a long hot run). The river is very clear, I could see the bottom even when it was deeper than 8 feet, I have been in spas that don't have bottoms as clean as this river.

After the dip, I started up again and made it to the bridge to the castle. I then ran one extra mile before turning around and returned. The course was pretty nice, I finished 10.5 miles in 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Slow & Easy - 20080809 - 1 Run - 5.0 Miles  

Evening Run

I felt pretty refreshed and decided to go to practice even though I hadn't even finished packing for my 3 weed trip to Iwakuni that I was leaving to the next day. I felt like my body really needed the run. So I went out and made a short 45 minute 5 miler out of it. It was nice to say goodbye to Will, Hase, and Seth.

Slow & Easy - 20080807 - 1 Run - 3.0 Miles  

Morning Run

I was sore and tired from the long run on Wednesday. My hips were out of balance and it was all I could do just to get up stretch and put in 3 very easy miles in about 30 minutes. In the afternoon I went to get a massage which helped my lower back much.

Slow & Easy - 20080806 - 1 Run - 12.0 Miles 

Evening Run

I came to practice and am sticking to my plan of not doing any speed work for a while. I jogged as soon as I got changed and kept jogging until the last teammate was done. This was about 1 hour and 50 minutes and I managed to get in 12 miles of jogging. The weather was pretty nice but still a little hot. I got a drink every 2 miles and diverged off course at 8 miles to buy another water bottle from a drink machine just outside the stadium.

Will and Hase did a longer tempo run, although Hase did not reach his target distance of 30k. Had he run 30k I don't know if I could have lasted until he was done. :)
